Biography
Ravichandran Ashwin was born on 17th September 1986 into a Tamil Brahmin family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, and later SSN College of Engineering, where he completed a B.Tech degree in Information Technology.
He rose to fame after playing for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 while playing for CSK, which brought him national recognition and paved the way for his international career.
Ravichandran Ashwin made his international One Day debut against Sri Lanka in 2010. Recognizing his all-round capabilities, he was selected for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup squad, where he made his World Cup debut against the West Indies. His Test debut came in November 2011 against the West Indies, where he impressed with both bat and ball.
Over the years, Ashwin established himself as one of India’s most successful spin bowlers and all-rounders, particularly in Test cricket. He played a key role in several major tournaments including the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2012/13, 2014 Asia Cup, 2014 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.
In the years that followed, Ashwin became a cornerstone of India’s Test dominance at home and abroad. He achieved the rare feat of becoming the fastest Indian bowler to 300, 400, and 500 Test wickets, and consistently featured among the top-ranked Test bowlers in the ICC rankings. He has also captained India in international matches and led IPL franchises such as Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings).
Apart from his on-field achievements, Ashwin is known for his analytical approach to cricket, innovation, and leadership. He is also a popular cricket analyst and content creator, running a successful YouTube channel and podcast where he discusses cricket, fitness, and strategy.
